Pula opened in 1995, and is a promising course with an already well-grassed and pleasant playing surface despite its early age. Only slightly hilly, the course is easy to walk, but elevated greens call for controlled high approach shots.

The width of the fairways at Pula gives a pleasant sensation of open space, and will appeal to big hitters, although they should watch out for a number of hazards that are not always clearly visible.

Designer Francisco Lopes Segales has not attempted any sort of exploit in style and has followed a British tradition with intelligence and good taste. At all events, he has succeeded in creating a course such as Pula whose development deserves to be watched closely. It is well suited to players of all abilities, fits in beautifully with the landscape and offers fine panoramas over sea and mountains.
